Woollen tufted rugs

Our tufted woollen rugs are made with care and dedication, from natural high-quality materials. To make sure your woollen rug maintains its quality and character over a long lifetime, take a good care of it regularly.

Here you will find our recommendations for the proper use and care of woollen tufted rugs:

  • Our tufted woollen rugs are suitable for use in homes and medium-traffic offices.
  • The rugs in the POHLPOHL B, MOSSMOSS X and WOODY collections are made of natural wool. We use the most highly valued New Zealand sheep wool in the rug world. As a result of the interaction of several factors, it has a longer and stronger fiber than ordinary sheep wool; therefore, yarn and rugs made from New Zealand wool are high-quality, durable and shed significantly less.
  • Wool has naturally dirt-repellent properties, so wool stays clean longer and woollen rugs are easy to maintain on a daily basis.
  • Wool is a strong, durable and shape-retaining material. Therefore, wool rugs made from high-quality material are very long-lasting.
  • Wool is also a naturally flame-resistant material, which makes our rugs suitable for public spaces as well.
Our wool rugs have a fire resistance certificate (classification Cfl-s1).
  • In addition, the rugs act as sound absorbers both when placed on the floor and on the wall.

A NEW RUG smells like a new rug – it is the the water-based and environmentally friendly latex adhesive used to fix the backside of handtufted rug.
The smell is temporary, it disappears. To speed it up, ventilate the rug and rooms if necessary. Avoid exposing the rug to strong sunlight.

NB! A NEW WOOLLEN RUG separates loose wool fibers. This behavior is typical of all woollen rugs, but it is most noticeable on rugs with a dense and smooth velour surface. The shedding of loose wool fibers is temporary and disappears during use until all loose fibers have risen to the surface.
The quality of the rug does´nt change due to the shedding of loose fibers. We recommend vacuuming the carpet more often in the first few months to remove loose fibers.

  • Effective vacuuming is the easiest and most environmentally friendly cleaning method. Regular vacuuming prevents the rug from absorbing dirt. Use plain, no-brush vacuum cleaner nozzle.
  • If the rug is placed on the floor, it is important that the floor is completely dry. Moisture trapped under the rug can damage both the floor and the rug.
  • The surface of the woollen rug can be treated with the suitable rug or textile protector. Follow the instructions of the producer.
  • We recommend to choose the right location for your wool rug - to prevent the dirt and moisture to reach the rug.
  • When storing the tufted rug, roll it tightly with the pile inside. Make sure that the bottom of the rug will not wrinkle. Store horizontally. Do not store anything heavy on top of the rug.

Effective daily maintenance reduces the need for DEEP CLEANING, but it is important to do it from time to time.

  • We recommend to order a proper cleaning from professionals or a laundry service that offers the appropriate service. It is important to dry the rug quickly after washing.
  • At home, you can perform a cleaning of the rug using commercially available rug shampoos, cleaning foams or absorbent powders suitable for woollen rugs. Follow the instructions of the producer. Remove moisture from the rug after cleaning.
  • You can also use hand soap and a damp soft cloth to remove stains. Be sure to remove any moisture from the rug after cleaning!
  • A tufted wool rug should not be soaked, bleached or dry-cleaned. Chemicals can react with the harmless water-based latex glue used to fix the yarns, causing the yarns to come loose.

All rugs retain their appearance for longer if you remove dirt and stains regularly. If stains get on the rug, act immediately – the later you act, the harder it is to remove the stain completely!

  • Dry stains should be gently scraped off the rug with a spoon or a knife. When cleaning, work from the edge of the stain toward the center. Avoid excessive rubbing. Then remove the residue with a vacuum cleaner.
  • Liquid stains should be removed by absorbing them with kitchen paper or a clean cloth. Avoid excessive rubbing. After removing the stain, dry the rug immediately.
  • If necessary, use rug cleaning foam to remove the stain completely. First test it in a less visible area of the rug. Make sure the cleaning agent is thoroughly blotted out with water. Dry the rug thoroughly. You can also use a hair dryer or a fan for this, avoiding excessive direct heat on the rug surface.
